Faith.

The interesting thing I find between people who don’t believe in God and people who do, is that we all have some sort of faith at the end of the day. Hope for something from God or the Universe is essentially Faith, in something or some being. In this pandemic, I’m sure everyone’s faith is somewhat being tested and others are holding on to it stronger than ever, during this pandemic.

I had not planned to talk about this and actually it was a random unplanned title, but its a topic I feel that’s very relevant in this climate.  I was reading the Book of Mark (Chapter 5 verse 21). This story is about a guy who believed that if Jesus travelled to his house, then his daughter would be healed there at his house. At the same location, a women in the crowd with an issue of blood believed that ‘If‘ she touched the hem of his garment, she would be healed in that moment. In the story, Jesus heals the individuals based on their level of faith. The daughter was healed at his house even though he could have healed her in that moment, without her being present. However, the mans faith only extended to that level, which Jesus matched his level of belief.

One thing that stood out to me is that your Faith is (somewhat) a currency, sometimes you have a lot of it sometimes you don’t have as much of it. The more faith you have the better the outlook you will have on life in general. At the same time, it’s scary as people are afraid of looking silly for when they are unsuccessful after they’ve had so much faith and it hasn’t worked out.

My faith has often been tested as last year, I applied for a placement at a law firm that I had always wanted to work at since 6th Form. I remember 3 weeks went by, since I applied and it was time to go to the annual Youth conference. I was on a high after a  sermon which was about ‘testing’ God. I decided that anyone that asked about my placement search, I would reply with ’They are going to get back to me Monday about an interview’. Bearing in mind, the university had told me if you don’t hear a reply in 2 weeks, you didn’t get it. Surely enough, Monday at 12:07pm they got back to me,  However, I didn’t get it after the interview. Although, it did teach me one thing, I need to have more faith in myself, which this year made me apply for a Top 10 law firm (Again, I didn’t qualify for or event even have a valid reason for the exceptional circumstances box).

But the thing about seeing your faith as a currency is that it’s you who determines how much you put in yourself, the bigger your faith the more God recognises your trust in him (OR the Universe, if thats your portion). The bigger the faith the bigger the risk, the scarier it is but sometimes the more worthwhile it is.

Really and truly what have you got to loose, the women in the bible had the issue of blood for twelve years  spent all her money on doctors, believing they would heal her. Yet, she still kept faith that if she did this one thing, then maybe it could work. Faith begins as small as a mustard seed, even the women with the women with the issue of blood said ‘if’, which shows that even she was unsure the remedy would work. Already, she had taken the first step, which she decided to put into action because Faith without work is Dead.

I guess no matter what you go through, keep the faith and that I change starts within the mind and then you can start to actually see it in the physical. I guess it’s about which perspective you are going to take, because if we are being honest life is already hard , you’ve got to have some faith for better times to come.

Its been Real,
